Least Cost Routing ( LCR ) – A brief description of the term.

Unlike equipment from a few years ago, most premicell PABX solutions are now "intelligent" and can recognise the numbers dialled. This allows the premicell PABX to route the calls via the premicell connection and or the service provider offering the least cost for the particular call. From here the acronym LCR ( Least Cost Routing). In some cases a distinction is made between, Manual Least Cost Routing and Automatic Least Cost Routing, the former requiring the caller to manually dial a prefix to "tell" the premicell PABX what connection is wishes to use. LCR and ALCR (Automatic Least Cost Routing) are used in the industry as mutually meaning the very same thing.
